The University of Pennsylvania Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece jazz big band and smaller accompanying ensembles that play and perform songs of various styles in the Philadelphia area.
PennJazz, as the group is commonly known, is entirely student-run and led, with the assistance of musical director Ed Wise. The group was formed in the fall of 1973, and since then, has performed with numerous jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, the Count Basie Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, and most recently, Christian McBride. The 2012 PennJazz Alumni Reunion Jam will be on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00pm in Irvine Auditorium room G16.
All former PennJazz musicians are invited to come to our annual PennJazz Alumni Reunion Jam Session during Penn's Alumni Weekend. This year's jam will take place on Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at 2:00pm in Irvine Auditorium, room G16. Bring your horns and RealBooks; bass and drums will be provided.
